In 2011 the most amazing thing Mommy and Daddy experienced was watching 3 TINY heartbeats, strongly pumping on the ultrasound screen! It was shortly after they would learn that these 3 little beings would be Ethan, Katelynn and Melissa. THREE innocent little heartbeats are now growing, thriving triplets who fill the hearts of many with love and joy each day!
Flash forward to Valentines Day 2012! On this day one year ago, we celebrated our first Valentines Day outside the womb. Mommy and Daddy's hearts were filled with joy as their 3 miracles were all home together and their family was complete. Valentines Day also took on a new meaning in 2012 as February is CHD Awareness Month (CHD stands for Congenital Heart Defect). When the trio was born we had no idea what complications they might face as premature infants born at 28 weeks, weighing 2lbs and less! When Melissa started having complications during her NICU stay, it was discovered that she suffered from an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). Melissa had a hole in her heart. As months wore on, doctors told Mommy and Daddy that the hole would most likely have to be surgically closed due to it's large size (6mm). The only problem was they had to wait until a time when Melissa was older, bigger and stronger. Scared of what this might mean for this fragile little princess they began to pray for a miracle. Everyone prayed that her heart would be healed and complete! In May of last year Melissa got the best news possible! The hole, which seemed too large to close without surgery, had closed on it's own and the Cardiologist wished her well and said he was not expecting to have to see her again!
It's now Valentines Day 2013 and we will forever be grateful for Melissa's healthy, complete and healed heart! We are thankful for the family and friends who shower us with love and prayer. We are blessed that Mommy and Daddy chose each other and answered God's call with "YES".
