Beach Blunder

Friday was the first official day of our summer vacation and the first of our adventures with the trio.  We started the day by going shopping.  We were in search of some walking shoes for our on the go trio! Shopping took us to a couple of places.  After shopping it was still fairly early in the day.  We headed for home to feed and change the trio! We then decided to hop back in the car and take an impromptu trip to the ocean.

We headed down to Ocean Shores for the afternoon.  We drove onto the beach with the van and got all the babies out of the car on our little blanket.  We  put out some toys for the kids to explore.  We sat high up on the beach where it was dry, which proved to be a little unstable for 3 new sitters! Ethan and Melissa ate a bit of sand, but nobody seemed to mind.  Katelynn took a couple spills in the sand which she wasn't thrilled about.  We took a few pictures and Kate even took a walk on the beach in her new shoes with daddy! We headed back to the car and loaded up all the babies!

You would think the adventure was over by this point.  The babies were tired and nobody wanted to get back in their carseats to go back home.  We now had a screaming trio.  Phil started up the car, but there was a slight problem! The car didn't budge! Remember, the screaming trio? We now had 3 screaming babies and a stuck car!

Phil, being himself quite resourceful, got out the plastic shovel the kids used on the beach and started digging the tires out and I tried backing up the car! Do you think that worked? I didn't think so! After about 20 minutes of fruitless digging and reversing, help arrived! A young couple (Probably not even out of high school yet) came with their big macho raised truck, tied a rope around some part of the van and pulled us back to hard sand so we could drive away!

Here's the mark we left on the beach with our van! 6/15/12
We left the ocean, and our first adventure, behind with many memories of eating sand, short walks on the beach and we learned that vans and sand don't get along! Next time we'll leave the van on the cement and we'll walk!
